SDR vs. SOR

Software Defined Radio (SDR) is about how the radio is designed and how it works internally. It doesn't have anything to do with how you actually use the radio.
Software Operated Radio (SOR) is about how you make the radio work and how it appears to us.
It is really easy to get these two things confused when you talk about SDR because, after all, it is what you see and touch that seems to define how it works. We can computer control a classical superhet and even add things like a panadapter and waterfall but it is still a classical superhet with all the limitations of a classical superhet.
