Bit Depth – number of bits-per-sample determines dynamic range of the receiver or transmitter.
- 1 bit ≈ 6dB
- 16 bits ≈ 96 dB (Pretty good but not quite stellar performance for an HF rig)
- 22 bits ≈ 132 dB (this is world-class HF RX)
- 24 bits ≈ 144 dB (this is approaching theoretical limits)
- (More bits just get lost in the noise.)
